Simply attractive, standards-compliant
web site design.

The Beginning.

In the beginning, the Internet was about sharing information. Educational institutions and the government were the only organizations with access. That purpose hasn’t really changed despite the dramatic increase in the number of people who have access to and use the Internet on a daily basis. However, now the Internet is flooded with advertisements, pop-up windows and all sorts of clutter. This has become so ubiquitous that most people ignore all of it. It’s like the hum of a crowded bar. Isn’t it easier to communicate when there isn’t a lot of background noise?

The Focus.

The average attention span for your average internet consumer is ridiculously short. So short, that if a web site doesn’t grab their attention and give them the information they want within a few seconds many will just give up and look somewhere else. Even if they are unusually patient, long waits and other problems with a web site can cause frustration to the point that they give up and look elsewhere for their information. If you only have a few seconds of a person’s time, shouldn’t you focus on making sure they have easy access to the information without distractions?

Attractive. Accessible.

The solution is to maintain a web site that focuses on communicating clearly. A web site’s design should enhance and draw attention to the information, rather than distracting or obscuring it from the user. A web site needs to be two things: attractive and accessible. At best, poor design will give your visitors the impression you aren’t professional. At worst, it could be a hindrance to the information for which they came to your site.
